About Emma

Emma graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2014. She spent 2 years working in Musculoskeletal outpatients before completing her MSc in Sports Rehabilitation alongside working with British swimming and the English institute of Sport. During this time, she led research based on shoulder pain in swimmers, which was published in the Shoulder and Elbow Journal 2018.

Emma then went on to work with athletes from various Olympic sports teams within the English Institute of sport. She spent a year with British Triathlon working with both the Junior elite triathletes across England and World class program athletes based in Bath. With a keen interest in triathlon herself she completed a half ironman in Mallorca in 2018 and has the goal to complete a full ironman in the future.

She worked full time with the British Sailing team in the lead up to the Olympic games in Tokyo, traveling internationally for both training camps and competition. During 2020 she made the decision to come back to the Surrey Hills bringing her sport physio experience back to private practice.

Emma specialises in helping patients return to sport following time out for injury, especially focusing on the prevention of further injury through education and rehabilitation.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function when someone has been affected by injury, illness or disability.

Musculoskeletal physio specialises in treating injuries and conditions which affect the muscles, joints and soft tissue. Examples of injuries treated include:

-Low back pain (sciatica, nerve pain, postural related pain)

-Neck pain

-Ligament sprains

-Shoulder pain

-Muscle strains

-Arthritis

-Pre and post surgery rehabilitation

-Fracture rehabilitation

During physiotherapy sessions we will complete a thorough assessment, diagnose which structures are involved and develop an appropriate individualised rehabilitation plan. This might include:

-Exercise therapy

-Manual therapy

-Self management techniques

Together we will develop relevant goals based on returning to pre injury function and what you might wish to achieve longer term.
